Harvesting Sunlight for the benefit of the Corn, the Soil and the Water

Description

Bob Recker will speak to us on the topic of Harvesting Sunlight for the benefit of the Corn, the Soil and the Water. For those growers searching for more effective methods to gain the benefits of cover crops within their current practices, wide rows are worth considering. This discussion will start with Why Wide Rows, then cover some of the results observed by Bob and others, as well as the risks associated with them. A simple method to allow a grower to conduct his own field trial of wide rows with his existing equipment will be presented. A lively group discussion is expected and welcomed..

Spouses Night Program Chair: Steve Crouse

Speaker: Bob Recker

Bob Recker retired from John Deere Product Engineering after a 41 year career in Waterloo, IA. His post-Deere activities have focused on “paying back” the farmers of the world for his effective and rewarding career. His agricultural passion has centered on enabling better sunlight utilization by corn while providing additional sunlight for cover, grazing, or companion crops. His earlier work on strip intercropping has transitioned to an emphasis on wide corn rows and cover crops.
