Topic: The Cedar Valley’s Innovation & Technology Based Economy
Speaker: Mr. Steven J. Dust
Steve Dust is Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber, a regional economic & community development organization charged with increasing economic vitality and wealth in the Cedar Valley economic region. The Alliance & Chamber is comprised of organizations with over 875 business and individual member/investors with 50,000 employees. He joined the Alliance & Chamber in June, 2004. Steve is also president of TechWorks Campus, the Alliance & Chamber’s subsidiary developing an urban technology park at the edge of Downtown Waterloo; and the Alliance & Chamber Foundation, which supports its Leader Valley initiatives. Steve has been involved in economic development and commercial real estate for over 35 years. He has led State, Metro, small city, and Investor-owned Utility economic development organizations. His professional thrills come from starting up new operations and leading – or dragging - organizations through change toward market success. He is a passionate advocate for free enterprise.
As a volunteer, Steve served two terms as a mayor, chaired a state health & education finance authority, and served on the board of directors for foundations, professional associations, state chambers, and national business associations. He is the immediate past chair of the Iowa Chamber Alliance and is a member of the board for Hawkeye Community College Foundation and Professional Developers of Iowa.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Services Administration at the University of Central Missouri, and a MBA degree at the University of Iowa. His wife, Donita, is a speech - language pathologist with AEA 267. They have two grown sons.
