Topic: Design of Experimental Small Wind Turbines
Speaker: Mr. Steve Lang
Topic Summary
Steve will discuss his experiences designing small wind turbines (less than 6 ft. dia. turbine) for heating water. He currently has four experimental small wind turbines operating and will describe their construction and performance including “lessons learned”. Steve has experimented with both wind and solar energy for home use and will briefly compare the two.
Speaker Background
Mr. Lang is a Senior Systems Engineer working for the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group. He works at the Product Engineering Center in Waterloo, Iowa. He has worked at John Deere for 32 years, the last 11 on the JDLink telematics product. Prior to that, Steve designed tractor dashboard instruments for John Deere. Steve holds a BSEE from University of Wisconsin and an MBA from UNI.
