SpeedASalt is a local group effort for a new speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats with a 500 cc Turbocharged Single Cylinder Motorcycle in both the “Gas” and “Fuel” classes.

Speaker: Mr. Ralph Longus

Mr. Longus will be telling us about a project SpeedASalt is working on as they “assault” the current speed record for this size Motorcycle.

Ralph’s hometown is Oskaloosa, Iowa and he is a graduate of William Penn College where he majored in Industrial Arts with a coaching minor. He recently retired from the Waterloo Community Schools where he was an Industrial Technology Instructor and Head girls Cross Country Track Coach. In 2008 he received the Iowa Teacher of Excellence Award. From 1991 – 2007 he was the owner of Gearhead Gallery/Motorsport Art Gallery. He is currently an Adjunct instructor in Digital Electronics at Hawkeye Community College and UNI.

In 2006 he earned his amateur motorcycle road racing license through the Championship Cup Series. In 2009 he won his first CCS race at Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis. In 2010 he earned enough points during the season to earn “Expert” status and in 2014 attempted to earn his SCTA Bonneville license during Speed Week.

Ralph is part of a team currently building a 500 cc Turbocharged single cylinder motorcycle to break the current gas and fuel records in 2015.
