WATERLOO TECHNICAL SOCIETY

Cedar Falls Lifestyle Inn Lounge and Conference Center (Formerly the Clarion Inn)
Waterloo Reconstruction
of University Avenue The presentation will be on the City of Waterloo’s
University Avenue Reconstruction Project and future enhancements. The
University Avenue Reconstruction Project is estimated at $35 million and is
scheduled to be completed in 2021.
AECOM performed a preliminary study of the
existing 6-lane roadway and determined current and projected traffic volumes
could be handled on an improved 4-lane street. With the reduction in lanes, the
City decided to reconstruct University as a “Complete Street” with a 10-foot
multi-use path and 5-foot sidewalks, landscaping, bus/transit accommodations,
and connections to other existing trails.
This project includes eight signalized
intersections, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, two bridge repairs,
bridge demolition, installation of a pedestrian box culvert, and
enhancements. The project includes private utility coordination, with electric,
gas and communication lines located alongside the roadway.
